Maintenance and Installation of our water leak detection systems
We often get asked the question “Do your water leak detection systems need specialised installation and maintenance”, to which we answer “NO”.
CMR Electrical was setup in 2003 by a group of people with over 25 years’ experience in the design and manufacturing of water leak detection equipment. The aim then, and now, is to manufacture within our own UK based factory, a high quality, low cost range of water leak detection alarms that can be installed by anyone, and requires no specialised knowledge or equipment to install or maintain.
With over 6000 system installed by others within the UK and around the world, we pride ourselves at the lack of requests from our customers for help when installing and testing our equipment on site.
So how easy is it to install? All our water leak detection systems are easy to install, first screw the alarm box to the wall using the measurements shown on the inside of the housing. Next connect a 230VAC supply to the internal power terminal from a local fuse spur or a 13A plug and lead, plugged into the nearest power socket. Then run the supplied inter-connecting cable (signal cable) between the alarm unit and the start of the water detection area before connected the two wires to a terminal block contained within the alarm unit, as outlined in the supplied installation manual. Finally plug the detection cable into the signal cable to complete the installation.
How do you test it after installation? Testing the alarm unit is as simple as pushing a button inside the alarm unit. To test the water detection cable or sensor, use a cup of water and dip the detection cable or sensor into it, to setup an alarm.
What future maintenance is requited? All we recommend is that someone dips the detection cable or sensor into a cup of water at least once a year and checks that an alarm is raised. If an alarm can’t be raised in this way, the internal “Test” push button should be used to determine if the problem lies with the detection sensor or the main alarm unit.
What do I do if the detection sensor is fitted in a damp area and I have a permanent Alarm? The sensors alarm trip point can be adjusted within the main unit. This could be to increase sensitivity in areas such as a deed stores or library’s, or decrease sensitivity in plantrooms or cellars. On multiple zonal alarm systems, each zone is supplied with its own sensitivity adjustment allowing some areas to be more sensitive than others.
So how easy is the system to repair? Yes, we’ve even thought of this, in the unlikely event that you need the main alarm unit or a detection cable/sensor replaced, apart from the mains power supply, all our systems are based on the plug and play principle. So, to replace the internal control boards from the main alarm unit first unplug all the connections then remove the four fixing screws. To fit the new boards, screw them back into the housing, plug in all terminal connectors and re-connect the power, and yes, the connectors are polarised so you can’t get them around the wrong way. Alternatively, if the problem lays within the detection cable unplug it and plug in its replacement.
